We sent 8 real buying questions to ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews – the questions businesses in this category actually ask. Then we counted which providers get named, and how often. The result is a ranking built from real AI answers, not opinion.

Across 8 real buying prompts sent to ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, AI systems collectively surfaced 44 distinct providers in the Video- & Streaming-Tech category — generating 80 total brand mentions in the process. That ratio of 44 providers to 80 mentions is unusually wide. It signals that no single vendor has established the kind of dominant, default-answer status that exists in more mature software categories like CRM or email marketing. The competitive landscape, as far as AI sees it, is genuinely crowded.
Microsoft Teams leads the ranking with 7 mentions and an 8.8% share of voice, followed by Webex at 6 mentions (7.5%). Behind them, a cluster of four providers — Jitsi, Zoom, eyeson, and Vimeo — each land exactly 4 mentions and share a 5.0% SoV. Combined, these top six account for just 29 of 80 mentions, or 36.3% of the total. The remaining 63.7% is distributed across 38 additional providers, including well-known names like Wistia, Bitmovin, BigBlueButton, and GoTo alongside a long tail of 32 others.
This fragmentation is not random — it reflects the structural reality of the video and streaming technology market. Unlike horizontal SaaS tools where a handful of platforms become universal defaults, video and streaming tech covers deeply different use cases: enterprise video conferencing, live event broadcasting, video hosting for marketing, on-demand streaming infrastructure, and public-sector video communication each attract different specialist vendors. When an AI system receives a prompt about "best video tools for government agencies," it pulls from a very different set of recommendations than when asked about streaming infrastructure for developers.
For brands competing in this space, fragmentation cuts both ways. The good news is that no single competitor has locked up AI visibility — a well-executed content strategy can still earn a meaningful share of mentions even for a niche specialist. The risk is invisibility by default: with 44 providers in play, AI systems are making rapid judgments about which vendors to surface, and any brand without a clear, well-documented positioning in public-facing content will simply be omitted. The 32 providers in the "andere" group (other mentions) are effectively invisible in AI-generated recommendations.

Among the two tracked providers in this report, eyeson achieves an AI visibility score of 50.0% — meaning it appears in half of all prompts where it could plausibly be mentioned. Bitmovin, by contrast, achieves 37.5% visibility. Both numbers are respectable in a 44-provider market, but the 12.5-percentage-point gap between them tells an important story about how differently AI systems treat providers that operate in adjacent but distinct parts of the video technology stack.
eyeson positions itself as a real-time video communication platform with a particular focus on enterprise and public-sector use cases in German-speaking markets. This positioning aligns precisely with the prompt types in our test set — questions about video tools for government agencies, alternatives to Webex for real-time transmission, and comparison prompts explicitly naming eyeson. That direct prompt-to-brand alignment is a key driver of high visibility scores: when your brand appears in comparison prompts by name, AI systems have no choice but to include you, boosting your score mechanically while also triggering additional contextual mentions.
Bitmovin, a developer-focused adaptive video streaming platform, operates in a technically narrower slice of the category. Its 37.5% visibility score reflects solid recognition in streaming infrastructure prompts but lower pickup in broader "best video tool" queries. This pattern is common for infrastructure-layer vendors: AI systems tend to surface them in technical comparison and use-case prompts but skip them in top-level "best of" recommendations, where more consumer-recognizable names like Zoom, Vimeo, or Microsoft Teams dominate.
The practical implication of this visibility gap is straightforward: specialization earns depth, not breadth. eyeson's higher visibility is partly a function of having a well-defined vertical (real-time video for enterprises and public bodies) that maps cleanly to specific AI prompt types. For any vendor in this space looking to close a visibility gap, the path runs through niche-specific content — technical documentation, use-case landing pages, and third-party coverage in the verticals where prompts are being asked, not just general product descriptions.
The 12.5-point visibility gap between eyeson and Bitmovin shows that even within the same niche, vertical positioning clarity is what drives AI pickup — infrastructure vendors must publish use-case-specific content to compete with application-layer brands on broader queries.

Not all prompts are created equal — and in Video- & Streaming-Tech, the type of question asked determines almost entirely which providers AI systems recommend. They anchor the response to a named set of providers, making them high-value opportunities for challengers. eyeson earns a disproportionate share of its mentions through exactly this mechanism: it appears in comparison prompts that explicitly reference it, which forces AI systems to provide detailed feature-level analysis. This same dynamic applies to Bitmovin and Vimeo in the streaming infrastructure prompts, where comparisons with Wistia trigger substantive coverage that might not emerge from open-ended "best of" queries.
Alternative-seeking prompts ("What are the alternatives to Cisco Webex for real-time video?") produce a notably different winner set. Jitsi, an open-source video conferencing platform, earns a significant share of its 4 mentions from these prompts precisely because it is positioned as a privacy-respecting, self-hostable alternative to commercial incumbents. BigBlueButton and OpenTalk follow a similar pattern — both are surfaced primarily when users ask for alternatives to dominant platforms, particularly in contexts where GDPR compliance or EU data sovereignty is part of the question.
Vertical and use-case prompts ("Best video tools for agencies in Germany") form the fourth distinct category, and they surface the most specialist providers: GoTo, Alfaview, and niche streaming infrastructure vendors. The content strategy implication is clear — a single brand page optimized for generic keywords will not generate AI visibility across all prompt types. Brands need dedicated pages addressing specific verticals (government, agency, developer), specific use cases (live streaming, on-demand hosting, real-time conferencing), and specific comparison pairs with their closest competitors.
Your AI visibility strategy must map to all four prompt types — best-of, comparison, alternatives, and vertical use-case — because each surfaces a different winner set; brands that optimize only for one will be invisible in the other three.

Looking at the sentiment breakdown across the leaderboard reveals a clear pattern: the providers that earn positive AI mentions are those with strong outcome narratives and recognizable user bases, while technically solid but less publicly discussed platforms receive exclusively neutral coverage. Microsoft Teams leads on positive sentiment with 3 positive mentions out of 7 total — a 43% positive rate. GoTo achieves the highest positive ratio in the dataset, with 2 positive mentions from only 2 total appearances, giving it a 100% positive sentiment rate despite limited overall reach.
eyeson and Vimeo each achieve 2 positive mentions from 4 total, a 50% positive rate that reflects active brand narratives around specific outcomes: eyeson around mission-critical reliability for public-sector clients, Vimeo around professional-grade video hosting with strong creator and marketing team testimonials. Alfaview, a smaller German provider, achieves 2 positive out of 3 mentions — an impressive ratio that likely reflects its active presence in German-language reviews and its distinct positioning as a domestic alternative to US tech giants.
In contrast, Wistia and Bitmovin receive zero positive mentions despite appearing 3 times each. Every single Wistia and Bitmovin mention is coded neutral — factual, descriptive, feature-comparative, but not emotionally positive. This is a common pattern for B2D (business-to-developer) and infrastructure-layer vendors: their AI coverage describes what they do technically but lacks the outcome-oriented testimonials, customer success stories, and third-party validation that generate positive sentiment. A developer reading about Bitmovin's adaptive streaming capabilities gets features, not feelings.
Notably, zero providers in this dataset receive negative AI mentions — a finding that is less reassuring than it sounds. It does not mean all products are flawless; it means AI systems in this category have not yet accumulated enough negative signal from public sources (review platforms, user forums, industry press) to include critical commentary in their responses. As the category matures and more B2B review content accumulates on platforms like G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius, negative signals will inevitably begin entering AI responses for underperforming vendors.
Infrastructure and developer-focused vendors like Bitmovin and Wistia are stuck in a neutral-only sentiment loop — to earn positive AI mentions, they need to invest in outcome-driven customer stories and third-party reviews that give AI systems something positive to quote.

This maturity stage is strategically significant because it is temporary. Based on patterns we observe across other B2B software categories, niche consolidation in AI search tends to happen faster than in traditional organic search — often within 12 to 24 months as AI training data accumulates and certain brands appear consistently across multiple signal types. The providers that invest in structured, prompt-aligned content now — use-case pages, comparison landing pages, authoritative technical guides, and third-party review presence — will establish the training-data footprint that locks in their AI visibility as the category matures.
For brands in Video- & Streaming-Tech, the data picture is simultaneously an opportunity and a warning. The opportunity: the AI ranking is not yet locked — any serious challenger can still earn top-5 visibility with the right strategy. The warning: the window is closing. As generalist platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom deepen their AI footprint through sheer content volume and integration coverage, specialist vendors that do not aggressively build their AI presence risk being permanently relegated to the long tail, appearing as one of 32 unnamed "other" providers that collectively share 45% of mentions but never appear by name in any AI recommendation.
Video- & Streaming-Tech is in the last phase where specialist brands can still claim top AI visibility without outspending Microsoft or Zoom — but that window is measured in months, not years, and the brands that act now will set the defaults that persist for years afterward.
